Our instructors bring a wide range of experiences and a passion for teaching dance.

Director Lee Ann King, DFCCA

Ms. Lee Ann, as her students call her, has carried on the tradition of the Sylvia Studio since 1975 when she began her career as a Cecchetti dance instructor. With 30 years of teaching experience she brings impressive expertise in dance and instruction to enrich her student’s lives. She began her dance training under master teacher Sylvia Hamer at the age of thee. For 25 years she performed with the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet, and is now Director and resident choreographer.

Ms. Lee Ann Began her teacher training and examinations as a young adult. She holds the CCA Advanced Teacher’s degree and is a Fellow of the Cecchetti Council of America. Lee Ann achieved the final and prestigious Maestro Enrico Cecchetti Diploma in 1997. She has continued to further her studies of ballet with intensive training session in California, Canada, Demark England, Michigan and New York.

Lee Ann King serves on the Cecchetti council of America National Executive Board and was elected by her peers to the presidency of the Council in 1994 and 1995. Currently she serves the CCA as a member of the International Summer School Steering Committee, a Permanent Examiner, Liaison Officer to national committees, Liaison to England, and delegate to the Cecchetti International Classic Ballet.

A frequent guest teacher around the country, lee Ann has been on faculties in California, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, Washington DC and internationally in England.

As the second Director of the Sylvia Studio, Lee Ann has continued the legacy of movement, music and the joy of dance established by her grandmother, Sylvia Hamer.

Instructor Karen Keith, LCCA

Karen is a certified Cecchetti teacher, holding her Intermediate Teachers degree. She is a Licentiate member of the CCA, and serves on the General Board.

She regularly attends the International Cecchetti Summer School and Teacher refresher courses, and has also done intensive studies in Canada and England. In 2002, Karen was honored to be award the Rita Emerson Shield by the Cecchetti Society of England for excellence in participation..

Karen is assistant to the director of the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet and a promising choreographer.

Instructor Stacie Barrett, BBA

Stacie is a graduate of the University of Michigan and works as a product manager for Valassis. She performed with Ann Arbor Civic Ballet for 11 seasons and currently serves on the board as its Treasurer. Stacie is an alumni of Sylvia Studio and has been teaching Jazz for the past seven years.
