Is the Studio Moving?
Yes, in December 2006 the studio will be moving to a new location. We’re extremely excited to announce the location of our new state of the art facility: 3900 Jackson (Near Wagner Road). Classes in the new facility will begin in January.
When will my daughter be ready for pointe work?
Pointe work is an exciting experience for any dancer. But it is key that the proper foundation be built prior to moving to pointe. To reduce the chance of injury it is important for each student to build up enough strength in their ankles to properly perform on pointe. The director, Lee Ann King, will determine when the class is ready to begin working on pointe.
How do I register for classes?
You can download a copy of the registration form on our web site. You can bring a copy of the form into the studio or mail it in with your deposit form for early registration.
May I register in the middle of a semester?
We recommend that your child begins class as close to the beginning of the semester as possible. This will ensure that he/she gets the best experience possible and doesn't miss any of the important skills learned in the class.
Can my child participate in classes but not in the recital?
The majority of our second semester of classes are dedicated to learning the recital dance. We recommend that all students participate as the performance provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase your child's skills and build confidence.
Why do you recommend ballet classes be taken in conjunction with jazz classes?
Ballet provides the foundation for all forms of dance. Ballet classes taken in conjunction with jazz classes will provide the student with better poise, traveling steps, turns, jumps and leaps, all of which are important in each dance form
Do you have payment plans?

How does one join the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet?
Open auditions for Ann Arbor Civic ballet are held each fall. The company is open to serious dance students over the age of 12, with pointe experience, taking two or more classes. If you or your child is a current student of Sylvia Studio, please talk to the director, Lee Ann King, to determine if your child is ready to audition for the company.
What are the financial / time commitments for Ann Arbor Civic Ballet dancers and their families?
Ann Arbor Civic Ballet dancers are required to pay $125 per semester in dues. We will also request that the students participate in one fundraiser each year. We ask that the parents take an active role in the company to help us maintain costs and keep dues from growing. We will have an opportunity for parents to volunteer in the early fall. A wide range of tasks will be available. During the normal course of the season the rehearsals are from 7:30 - 9:00 PM. Prior to the performance the Thursday night rehearsal time may be extended and additional rehearsals on Sunday may be called.
